PE

Intent:

At Hevingham and Marsham Primary School Partnership, our Physical Education curriculum aims to inspire all pupils to succeed and excel in both competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. This helps build character and embed values such as fairness and respect.

Our planning, implementation and assessment allows all pupils to be successful learners, whatever their physical abilities, and lead them to understand about, and be confident in, looking after their own personal health and fitness. We strive to offer excellent opportunities to develop a healthy life-long love of physical activity and to develop a first class teaching and learning environment where both staff and students enjoy working hard together to achieve success.

We want all students to feel they belong as part of a team, believe in their healthy potential and thrive physically, socially and emotionally. We do this by developing the attitudes, skills and knowledge required to be a leader and provide memorable experiences throughout their time here within Physical Education.

With support and encouragement, everyone will learn that we can all progress, albeit at different levels and that that is ok.

Implementation:

Premier Sport are working with us to create a new PE curriculum which details when, and, which disciplines are to be covered. Each class is allocated a 1 hour slot specifically to follow this plan, as well as access to a 15 minute morning play, a half hour lunchtime play, as well as taking part in the ‘Daily mile’ every day.

As an Active School, we aim to ensure that the children participate in active lessons outside of their regular PE lessons. This involves incorporating moments within lessons whereby the children can be active.

Our progression of skills within taught sessions from nursery through to year 6, allows pupils to regularly recap, and build upon, previous learning, from lesson to lesson and year to year. This enables them to practice and refine skills learnt, using them to support new learning.

Learning takes place individually, practicing skills independently to refine them, or within small/large groups, supporting each other through collaboration. This takes place through a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, which we feel is essential, to enable different skills to be explored and for them to be transferred between multiple disciplines.

Opportunities are given for the pupils to set, and assess, their own targets during these times, which helps them to understand areas of success and areas for development, as well as areas where they need new skills to succeed. Our planning and implementation puts this in every lesson, with an overall review of the discipline at the end of a unit of work. This allows us to set targets for all pupils, provide individualised learning opportunities that support their needs and abilities, and ensures that everyone has a chance to succeed.
